Third Annual Walk

THIRD ANNUAL SPONSORED WALK
in memory of Talia Hyman

 Sunday 30th September 2007   3rd day Hol HaMo’ed Succot

During the afternoon of the third day of hol hamo’ed Succot, walkers and Talia Trust supporters of all ages met on the Students Beach in Haifa for the third annual sponsored Walk.

This year about 225 walkers participated, including nearly 50 scouts from the local Lotem scout troop and six visitors from England.

The purpose of the walk was threefold: to widen public knowledge of the Trust, to collect funds for its projects, and to enable Talia’s friends to meet up. This year’s donations collected are earmarked for helping schoolchildren from Kiryat Haim who have specific learning difficulties and who are taking part in the project there which the Talia Trust supports. This year this project continues to be vital in light of continuing psychological effects engendered by last year’s war on these children.

The Walk followed two separate routes. The first which began at 15.30 was a 12 kilometre hike for good walkers along the beautiful shoreline between Haifa and Atlit. The second, for families with young children and average walkers, began at 16.00 and followed the full length of the Dado promenade in both directions for 4 kilometres.

The routes were timed so that the majority of walkers would return at sunset, when- after a light snack- they heard a short explanation by Nitza Tessler, principal of the Haifa Learning Centre, about the Kiryat Haim project and how it helps these children fit into regular schooling, as well as  a few words from Talia’s mother, Marilyn, about the Trust’s projects and aims.

As darkness fell and candles were lit, Kobi Oved, together with Uzi Rockman, played for us and led the participants in a sing-along.
